  7. Identification: 15-30 in; shiny dark brown to black with vague dark brown to black bands on sides; belly light with two rows of black spots; scales keeled.

  9. Habits: Crayfish snakes are chiefly nocturnal, and inhabit swamps and bayous.  They spend the day hidden in crayfish burrows and damp leaf litter near shore.
